With the temperature increase in the area (Fiskars is about an hour and a half away from Helsinki), I arrived back at my little house with my experiments in terrible disarray...
Everything I'd done for the previous week was in ruins. This showed me the treacherous path ahead. I am worried that there will be plus degrees again soon... It's just part of the equation though in the end... I came here to start to engage with the weather and in part to hopefully begin a visual/conceptual dialogue with myself/for myself about climate change somehow, and I suppose this is as good an introduction as any.More melted trials. The melting effect looked pretty good on some of the bigger blockier casts though - especially when the original looked just like a water bottle for instance. The melted version was nicer. So this is part of my pallette now... I can leave things indoors to achieve the same effect, or in the fridge...
I learned a lot from this slightly disheartening event, but it also forced me to interrogate my initial thinking - the time it takes to cast solid ice is too long, the resultant objects are quite weak really, and the melting issue cacels out the option of making struts or components and joining them, because if a warm patch comes along all the thin sections would melt faster, and the whole shebang would crumble.
