the cold rerturns, I try paper and harvest fallen icicles

My plan is to update this blog so that I can start to write in something more like real time - the events I will post now are from about a week ago...

ice-in-card mould — It got cold again, and I started to try some ideas I'd been playingwith in my head.

So I've always wanted to make a structure by pouring some substance into a mould like the one above (many times over), and then joining many of these pieces together...

ice over a constructed paper form — I tried making a simple geometric paper form, and spraying it with water repeatedly

This is a nice thing.

I went and got a spray-bottle, and some paper glue, and started to layer ice over the constructed object I built. Promising...

chair leg — I found an old chair and decided to try and use the leg as a mould

This was a proud moment, but i didn't use any release agent before pouring the water in, so it shattered upon my trying to remove it...

Lamp oil may be a good release agent. It doesn't freeze.

icicles — I also went roaming around the village and found interesting things had happened during the short thaw.

The possibility of working with found ice presented itself when I saw the kind of mad destruction that fast melting ice can cause a gutter on a house or some such building - these icicles came from a building where the whole gutter system was ripped off. In Helsinki, a person was killed last week by such an ice formation falling on them... wow. Anyway, maybe a construction using 'found' and made ice is interesting?
